Top 6 Reasons We Love Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Brandon and I started camping at Bronte Creek several years ago. We have camped there three times.

Here’s what we love about Bronte:

  1. Proximity to Toronto – Providing traffic cooperates, it only takes us about 45 minutes to get there, but it feels like you’re far away from the city because you’re out in nature and you’re camping!  But, if you need your Timmy’s it’s only a short drive away.
  2. Bronte Creek Provincial Park offers many of the same things that we love about all our provincial park visits: friendly park rangers, clean and well-maintained facilities, & free nature programs
  3. The Children’s Play Barn – it’s a playground inside a barn, plus there are friendly farm animals to feed and pet so it’s also a petting zoo. We spent a fair bit of time feeding the goats, two of whom we dubbed Mr. Horns and Dongles.
  4. Spruce Lane Farmhouse – we learn a little history while exploring the Victorian farmhouse.  This year one of the park rangers demonstrated how to use a treadle saw (it’s an old-time saw that is operated by pumping a foot peddle) and she made us a cut out of a farm animal to take home as a souvenir.
  5. The Nature Centre – Many of the provincial parks have nature centers where you can learn and interact with their displays.  Every year Brandon completes the requirements to become a junior park ranger and gets a park ranger badge to add to his collection.
  6. The pool – because there is no lake for swimming in at Bronte, there is a huge outdoor swimming pool. After a full day of exploring nature, it’s awesome for cooling off and cleaning up before heading back to camp for dinner.

The one downside to Bronte Creek is that the campsites are located off of Bronte Road, while all of the activities are located off of Burloak Drive. This means that you need to hop in your car to commute between the two.  We are hoping they’ll put in a bike or hiking path between the two portions of the park.  We like to take our bikes with us for traveling around the activity or Day Use portion of the park. The play barn/nature center, pool, and farmhouse are spread out over a large area.
